Survey of First-Year Admitted Students

New student posing with parents. All wearing Michigan-themed clothing.

The Survey of First-Year Admitted Students (SOFYA) is conducted approximately every 2-3 years. The University surveys admitted first-year students during the summer before their initial enrollment. The survey pool includes admitted students who enroll at Michigan as well as students admitted to the U-M who choose to enroll at other institutions.

The U-M uses this survey to probe the college-choice process of admitted students and to determine the University’s competitive position relative to other institutions. SOFA results are generally distributed to Schools, Colleges and other units within the University.
